This is one reason I married Joann
After eleven years of living together, Joann and I married on 9/5 in a small ceremony at UCP. In attendance was her family. That's right, I married Joann for many reasons but her family was icing on the cake. My side of family has very few members left. My parents and three uncles are deceased, as is my grandparents. I have a cousin in New York, one in New Zealand, an aunt in Chicago and a sister in Plymouth. That's all she got from me. None attended my wedding. My aunt wanted to but wasn't able. Not a peep from anyone else. My cousin in New Zealand would have loved to attend but it was impossible for her to do so. From Joann I got two sisters-in-law, two nieces and five grand nieces plus a second cousin. The second cousin is actually fairly new; Joann only found out she related to her a month ago. Know what's even weirder? She's been a volunteer at UCP for a year. I really like Joann's family. I am very, very happy to be part of her family. Last but not least is Sara, Joann's daughter from a previous marriage. I'll be adopting her soon. I love my family. Current Music: Hold The Line | | Thursday, September 10th, 2009 | | 9:29 am |
Reboot
Following LWE's lead, I am rebooting my LJ blog, or rather, as he says, re-entering the blogosphere. I'm not sure exactly what I'll say so I'll start using this as a writing log, for now at least. So, shamelessly stolen from LWE: Work In Progress: The Sword of Sorrow Pages added since last update on 8/13/09: 7 Current page count: 166 Estimated final page count: 400. Probably more. Current word count: 42,353 Estimated final word count: 100,000 Deadline: None yet. Writing this while my novel "Ourborous" makes the submission rounds. My buzz was harshed by "Ouroboros" being rejected. Onto another publisher. Martin stood watch and is trying to find safety for him and two survivors after elfs attacked their wagon. I'm too sexy for even a library
You’ve got that smooth, mature kind of sexiness that does really well at Sudoku conventions or just about anywhere.
You’ve got a bit of the Geek in you, which you stealthily use to your advantage. After all, there’s nothing sexier than being smart about what you want and going after it. You have the potential to wow ‘em with your choice words and profound insight. Just be sure to find a suitable balance between confidence and kindness. Have courage to speak your mind, but don’t forget about giving all your honeys all the love and attention they deserve. (After all, they were smart enough to go for you.)

Telethon Time
We had out annual Telethon sunday. We were $3,000 short going in but made it, somehow. I worked 12-6 at the reception desk, checking everyone in. It wasn't as bad this year as last, for which I am thankful. | | Saturday, January 20th, 2007 | | 9:46 am |
And I'm published
Last week, I signed a contract with Chippewa Publishing, a small publisher that specializes in e-books (books that can be read on your computer, Palm Pilot, etc). I am awaiting word from my editor. No, I'm not going to get rich off this deal. There is no advance but it's not a vanity press or POD but it will be cool. The book is The Black Sword, a collection of three linked novellas. Whether they'll be published together or in its parts remains to be seen. Current Music: Sunset Grille - Don Henley | | Monday, January 15th, 2007 | | 9:33 pm |
The Return Of Saturn
Well the holidays have ended and everyone is healthy again. Sacha is herself again and I have come through a cold, stomach bug and a cold. I couldn't use my cpap while I was sick. I thought it would be The Suck but it wasn't bad. I am starting again tonight. In two weeks is Telethon Time. I'm well enough that I have begun writing again and I'll take up the bongos again this weekend. Current Mood: awakeCurrent Music: Mother - Pink Floyd | | Monday, December 25th, 2006 | | 12:12 pm |
xmas and two American Idol CDs
Today two American Idol CDs arrived under the tree. One was the debut CD of Chris Daughtry, the hard rocker who finished fourth and Taylor Hicks, the soul and blues singer who won season five. Two couldn't be more different. On the show Chris Daughtry sang with a hard rocking sincerity that was compelling. Put in a CD and just gets tiring. The CD starts and rocks without mercy until the end. No hint of lightness or humor (Like AC/DC or Aerosmith frequently use on their records) makes for a tiring record since Chris starts the hammer and doesn't let up until the end of the last track. Good: Chris rocks hard without compromise Bad: Its a relentless rock pounding Score: B+ Well done and competent but lighten up, Chris! Taylor Hicks stays true to his blue eyed soul and southern roots. What you saw on the show you hear on the record, an honest sincerity and love of his music and singing. There are a couple of odd filler tracks (The weird duet thing is kinda disjointing). In the end the record is 100% Taylor Hicks and that's the best thing about the CD. Good: Pure blue-eyed soul, catchy tunes and great singing. Bad: Some odd filler tracks. Score: A |
